Hello. My name is Doug McCoy, Freelance Cartoonist and/inker. Drawing comics is the only thing I ever wanted to do since the day before my fifth birthday. That was the day I realized that people drew comics for a living and they got to draw comics all day. After that I wasn't the same. I grew up with different heroes than the other kids. While they wanted to be like Joe Namath, Pete Rose or even Davy Jones, I wanted to be like my heroes in comics--not Spider-Man and the like -- I wanted to be the next Joe Kubert, Bob Kane and Jack Kirby.
So since then I've spent every spare moment with pencil in hand. By the time I was out of high school I realized that my style wouldn't really fit in the mainstream comic market; it was a little too cartoonish for it. So I thought instead about a newspaper strip or animated studio. After a few more years I had an EPIPHANY -- why couldn't I draw comics superheroes in a cartoon way -- Batman with a HB twist if you will? In the years to come, working with other people in an APA (Amateur Press Alliance) I belong to, and S-Tapa (Super- team apa), I learned the joys of becoming a inker/embellisher.
And now after finishing Joe Kubert's World Of Cartooning inking course I feel it's time to try to make my dream come true. Now I live in the best of both worlds, getting a chance to ink over other peoples more realistic style and drawing my own funny books. Can life get any better than this? Well, I could make a living doing this and quit my lame day job, so if you have any input, good or bad, please email me and let me know if I'm just kidding myself or do I have the right stuff to make it.
